1. Ventilate the house first thing in the morning and let air in at night.

Take advantage of the times when the temperature is lower to ventilate the house. Open windows early in the morning and leave them open during the night to allow fresh air to circulate.

2. Lower the blinds or shades.

During the hottest hours, close the doors and lower the blinds or shades to prevent direct sunlight from entering the house and keep the air inside the house cool.

3. Insulate windows

Make sure windows are well insulated to prevent heat from entering the house. Also, if you have blinds, make sure they fit properly to keep out direct sunlight. The curtains, better thick and of light colors, preferably white. Awnings that protect walls and windows from the sun’s strongest rays can be a great investment.

4. Surround yourself with plants

Plants help to freshen the environment and also purify the air. Add some plants to your home to reduce the temperature and improve air quality. If you also humidify the leaves with a vaporizer, you will notice how they contribute to freshen the atmosphere. If you have a patio or terrace, water it as soon as the sun begins to set.

5. Use fans

Fans are a good option to cool the environment without increasing energy consumption. Place one in the room where you are and let it run for a while. A little trick that will surprise you is to fill a wide container with ice and put it in front of the blades: the air will be much cooler. If it is a ceiling fan, make sure that the direction of rotation is to draw the warm air upward. And if you are still not convinced by the fans and opt for air conditioning, don’t forget to clean the filters!

6. Avoid turning on lights

Light bulbs emit heat, so it is advisable to avoid turning them on whenever possible. If possible, opt for LED lighting. It is the same with most electrical appliances, they are a source of heat that you should avoid.

7. Change the sheets

Change the sheets and pillowcases for fresh fabrics, such as cotton or linen, to sleep cooler at night.

8. Take advantage of heat extractors

Heat extractors are a good option to reduce the temperature in the kitchen or bathroom. Turn them on while cooking or showering to prevent heat from building up in the room.

9. Avoid using the oven

The oven emits a lot of heat and can increase the temperature in the house. During the summer, avoid using it and opt for cool, light meals and alternatives that generate less heat, such as air fryers.

10. Hydrate

Staying hydrated is key to coping with the heat. Drink plenty of water and make sure you have cool, refreshing drinks, preferably non-alcoholic. Typical fruits of this time of the year, such as melon or watermelon, are another great alternative to combat the heat.
